In den 90er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts zerbrach Jugoslawien in einem brutalen Bürgerkrieg. Die im Kern wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und politischen Konflikte wurden ethnisch und religiös von den verschiedenen Seiten aufgeladen, was in der Folge zu zahlreichen Massakern unter ehemaligen Nachbarn und zu scheinbar völlig entgrenzter Gewalt führte. Ana und Otto Raffai, ein Ehepaar aus Zagreb, beide katholische Theologen, wollten sich nicht damit abfinden, wie ihre Heimat in Hass und Gewalt versank. Sie versuchten mit gewaltfreien Mitteln für Verständigung und Versöhnung zu wirken.
