Overcoming violence against young women, including domestic violence - in Eastern Europe, CIA and Central Asia

This two-year innovative, challenging and creative training programme, organized by the Ecumenical Network for Youth Action - ENYA, will bring together 24  young men and women (aged 18 - 30) from Eastern  Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Central Asia.  Participants need to make a two-year commitment and to be involved in both seminars as well as micro-projects and other exciting adventures.

INTRODUCTION:

"Violence against women continues to persist as one of the most heinous, systematic and prevalent human rights abuses in the world. It is a threat to all women, and an obstacle to all our efforts for development, peace, and gender equality in all societies. Violence against women is always a violation of human rights; it is always a crime; and it is always unacceptable. Let us take this issue with the deadly seriousness that it deserves." 

1st Georgian Seminar Phase I

Modules:
Violence against women -   Reducing Violence Against Young Women
Domestic Violence - Root Causes, Prevention, Protection and Healing
80% separate gender sessions

2nd Georgian Seminar Phase III

Modules:
Domestic Violence - Tough Guise - Crisis in Masculinities and Violence Towards Women
Sexual Violence - HIV Infection and Violence against women
30% separate gender sessions

PARTICIPANTS:

The seminar  will bring together  up to 24 young men and women multipliers  from a variety of backgrounds who come from the various countries in Eastern, CIS and Central Asia.  Participants need to have a basic knowledge of English.  As part of the integral process of the whole programme, it is expected that the qualifications and skills gained through the programme will be further shared and passed onto others within their local and/or national context and within their organisations and projects. Participants need to make a two year commitment to the whole programme before being accepted, which means attending both seminars and undertaking projects and evaluation processes between the seminars and after the last seminar.
