Nobel Laureates Issue Charter for World without Violence
"Violence is a preventable disease." So begins a ground-breaking effort by Nobel Peace Laureates and Laureate Organizations who met in 2007 and crafted a "Charter for a World without Violence." The charter calls for recognition by the global community that people across the globe have a right to not be killed and have a responsibility not to kill.
Thirteen principles give direction to the charter, which ends with the appeal "to address all forms of violence we encourage scientific research in the fields of human interaction and dialogue, and we invite participation from the academic, scientific, and religious communities to aid us in the transition to non-violent, non-killing societies."
